The government wants to increase VAT on culture, books, sports, accommodation and media from 9 to 21 percent. This will make hotels, books, concerts, newspapers and gym memberships more expensive. Ever since the introduction of VAT in 1969, there has been bickering about what does and does not fall under the high rate.
